Vision and Ethics in Imagery

My Vision

Welcome to my website where you will find images and stories of marine life and wildlife, and the places that they call home.  I hope my work will evoke an appreciation for the ocean and lands for those who have not been able to experience it for themselves.  For those who have those experiences, I hope you find some happy memories in these pages.

You will also find messaging about the importance of conservation and the need to protect our environment.  Wanting to preserve our oceans is an automatic reflex for anyone who has experienced the wonder of looking into the eye of a baby humpback whale or hovered over a reef to watch a turtle enjoying a sponge for lunch.

Ethics and Imagery

As scuba divers we are taught to “leave only bubbles and take only pictures”.    My photography is guided by the desire to share images and stories of marine life and wildlife in their natural environment.  As a result, none of the images on my web site have been obtained through baiting, trapping or otherwise attracting, chasing or intentionally disturbing the subject.

My images are adjusted in attempt to reproduce what the human eye would see in the same environment. Underwater images for example, are edited to adjust for the changes to color that occur with depth, clarity of the water and presence or absence of natural light.

“Take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints, kill nothing but time”

My commitment

I am a digital photographer using both mirrorless and DLSR cameras for my land based work and have a depth rated aluminum housing for my underwater photography.  My post production work is primarily in Adobe Lightroom with minimal adjustments – I do not use AI generated images or edits.  I adhere to the North American Nature Photography Association standards for ethical field practices and knowledge of subject and place.
