Named for their narrow, pointed beaks, Hawksbill Turtles are typically found on coral reefs where they feed on sponges, sea anemones and jelly fish.
Sea Turtles are the living representatives of a group of reptiles that have lived on earth for over one hundred million years.
I call this image Turtle High Five as it looks like he is giving us a wave. This image is one of a series taken where I was down low in the sand watching this turtle feed on a sponge. As they say timing is everything and I was able to capture one fin up as he started to lift up and swim off. This image was taken in Little Cayman in 2019.

Image will be printed on Photo eSatin 300g which is a premium-quality, resin-coated inkjet photo paper which will not reflect glare like a glossy paper. This paper’s excellent ink retention properties produce an exceptionally large color gamut for bright, realistically saturated colors and accurate skin tones.

  • Adelies on Ice

    Adelie penguins have an all black face and white rings around their eyes which along with their stockier build help to distinguish them from other penguins. They are the southernmost breeding penguin with almost all of them breeding on the Antarctic continent. They start to head off shore in early February as their breeding season comes to a close which is where I found this group on an iceberg trying to stay cool in the sunshine. Interesting penguin fact - penguins raise their flippers off their sides to increase air circulation to help keep them cool when they are out of the water.     Icebergs have an appeal that's hard to put in to words. There's the appreciation for the sheer age of the ice, the journey it has undertaken to get to the water and the unique shapes that are forged by the water and wind. This is a tabular iceberg which would once have been part of an ice shelf much like the one you can see in the background of the image. The soft clouds and their reflection in the water add a softness to an image that originates in a cold harsh climate. This image was taken near Snow Hill Island, Antarctica.

  • Iceberg Reflections

    Scientists estimate that the ice within an iceberg can be up to 3,000 years old. That ice begins its life as snow which becomes compressed into a glacier eventually making its way to the water where waves, sun and wind continue to sculpt the ice into so many colourful and interesting shapes. When I see an iceberg, I often wonder who or what might have walked on this ice when it was back on land. The day I photographed this one, we were blessed with a gorgeous sunny day and flat water which made for perfect reflections. Image taken February 2023 near Snow Hill Island Antarctica.
