The American Marten also known as the Pine Marten is a favourite in Algonquin Park. Along with a thicker coat, the bright orange throat patch is more distinct in the winter. Although they are good climbers, they take the bulk of their food from the ground relying on mice, voles, hare and even squirrels. They aren’t particularly picky and are known to eat whatever they can catch. This Pine Marten found a safe spot on a branch to enjoy a meal. Taken in Algonquin Park, February 2022.
