Old Growth BC

The Francis/King Regional park was originally home to the Saanich people who relied on the forests and open spaces for food and shelter. The Saanich took only the wood they needed from the giant cedar forests for their canoes, clothing, household wares and ceremonial objects. The Douglas Fir trees in this area are estimated to be over 500 years old. I chose to capture two images from one ancient tree that has been down for a long time.  It is still contributing to the forest with a carpet of moss as it slowly returns to the soil. Image taken October 2021.
